About Base64 Encode

Base64 turns any data into a string of 64 safe characters (A–Z, a–z, 0–9, + and /). It's used to put binary data or special characters inside places that only accept plain text: email attachments, JSON, data URLs, HTTP headers and config files.

Base64 is an encoding, not encryption: anyone can decode it. The output is about 33% longer than the input.

URL-safe Base64 replaces + and / with - and _ and drops the = padding, so the result can sit inside URLs and file names. It's the variant used by JWT tokens.

Frequently asked questions

Is Base64 encryption?

No. Base64 only changes how data is written so it survives systems that expect text. Anyone can decode it, so never use it to hide passwords or secrets.

Does it support emoji and other languages?

Yes. Text is encoded as UTF-8 first, so emoji, accents, Hindi, Chinese and every other script round-trip correctly.

Is my text sent to a server?

No. Encoding happens in your browser, so even sensitive text never leaves your device.
