AVIF to JPG Converter
Turn AVIF files into JPG in seconds. Everything happens on your device: nothing is uploaded, and there's no limit.
Your images are processed in this browser tab and never uploaded.
Why convert AVIF to JPG?
AVIF is new, so many apps and older devices can't open it yet.
JPG works everywhere: every phone, computer, website and app accepts it, and photos stay small enough to email.
What to expect
- JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas become white.
Opening AVIF images in older apps
AVIF is the newest web image format and gives the smallest files, so more and more websites serve it. Browsers show it fine, but Windows Photos needs an extension, older Photoshop and Office versions can't open it, and many upload forms refuse it.
JPG is the most compatible fix. Because AVIF compresses so well, expect the JPG to be several times larger than the AVIF.
Tips
- Transparent areas of the AVIF become white in the JPG; use AVIF to PNG to keep them.
- Images saved from websites are often AVIF even when the link ends in .jpg; the file type is what counts, not the name.
- Animated AVIF converts to its first frame.

About the formats
AVIF (AV1 Image File Format, 2019) is the newest major image format, based on the AV1 video codec. It usually produces the smallest files of all, often half the size of JPG, with transparency and HDR support.
JPG (JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group), 1992) is the most widely used photo format in the world. It uses lossy compression that throws away detail the eye barely notices, which keeps photos small. JPG and JPEG are the same format: the shorter extension comes from old Windows versions that only allowed three letters.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert AVIF to JPG?
Drop your AVIF files into the box above (or tap Select files), check the options, then press Convert. Each JPG downloads on its own, or you can download them all as one ZIP file.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser on your own device. Your AVIF files are never sent to a server, so they stay private, and it works even on a slow connection once the page has loaded.
Is there a limit on how many AVIF files I can convert?
No. Convert as many as you like, for free, without signing up. Very large batches are processed one after another so your browser stays responsive.
What happens to the transparent background?
JPG can't store transparency, so transparent areas become white. If you need to keep transparency, convert to PNG or WebP instead.
Will I lose quality converting to JPG?
JPG uses lossy compression, but at the default 90% quality the difference is practically invisible. Move the Quality slider up for the highest fidelity or down for smaller files.
Why is the JPG so much bigger than the AVIF?
AVIF is about 50% more efficient than JPG. A bigger JPG is normal and doesn't mean the image changed.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. It works in Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Edge on phones, tablets and computers. Nothing to install.
