Why convert WebP to PNG?

Many apps, print services and older programs still don't accept WebP.

PNG keeps every pixel and supports transparency, so nothing is lost and it is accepted by every app and website.

What to expect

  • Converting to PNG keeps every pixel of your WebP, but it can't restore detail that WebP compression already removed.

Opening WebP images saved from websites

Right-click → Save image on most websites now gives a .webp file, because sites serve WebP to save bandwidth. Older versions of Photoshop, Microsoft Office, many print shops and some upload forms still can't open it.

PNG is the lossless choice: it keeps the image exactly as decoded and keeps transparency, so stickers and logos with transparent backgrounds stay transparent.

Tips

  • Animated WebP (like animated stickers) converts to its first frame.
  • If the PNG is too large to upload, convert the WebP to JPG instead; for photos it will be much smaller.
  • Images you download from websites are usually copyrighted; check you're allowed to reuse them.

About the formats

WebP (WebP, 2010) is Google's modern web format. It makes files roughly 25–35% smaller than JPG or PNG at the same visual quality and supports both transparency and animation.

PNG (Portable Network Graphics, 1996) is a lossless format that keeps every pixel exactly. It supports full transparency, which makes it the standard for logos, screenshots and graphics with sharp edges.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert WebP to PNG?

Drop your WebP files into the box above (or tap Select files), check the options, then press Convert. Each PNG downloads on its own, or you can download them all as one ZIP file.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser on your own device. Your WebP files are never sent to a server, so they stay private, and it works even on a slow connection once the page has loaded.

Is there a limit on how many WebP files I can convert?

No. Convert as many as you like, for free, without signing up. Very large batches are processed one after another so your browser stays responsive.

Will I lose quality converting to PNG?

No. PNG is lossless, so the converted image keeps every pixel of the original.

Why does Photoshop say it can't open my WebP?

Photoshop only gained built-in WebP support in version 23.2 (2022). Older versions need a plugin, so converting to PNG is the quick fix.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. It works in Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Edge on phones, tablets and computers. Nothing to install.
