URL Encode
Make text safe to put in a URL. Spaces, &, ?, # and non-English characters are turned into % codes.
Runs in your browser. Nothing you type or drop here is sent anywhere.
About URL Encode
URLs may only contain a limited set of characters. Percent-encoding replaces everything else with a % followed by its hex code, so a space becomes %20 and é becomes %C3%A9.
“Component” mode encodes everything except letters, digits and - _ . ! ~ * ' ( ). Use it for query-string values. “Full URL” mode keeps characters like : / ? & = so a complete link stays readable.
Frequently asked questions
Should spaces be %20 or +?
%20 works everywhere. The + form is only used in HTML form submissions (application/x-www-form-urlencoded). Tick “Spaces as +” if you need that.
When do I use component vs full URL?
Encode each query value with component mode. Use full URL mode only to clean up a whole link that contains spaces or accents.
