Why convert RAW to JPG?

RAW files are huge and need special software, so they can't be shared or posted directly.

JPG works everywhere: every phone, computer, website and app accepts it, and photos stay small enough to email.

What to expect

  • We use the full-size preview your camera stores inside the RAW file, so you get the colours you saw on the camera. For exposure or white-balance edits, use a RAW editor first.
  • JPG is lossy, so the file gets much smaller. At the default quality (90%) the difference is very hard to see; you can change it before converting.

Quick JPGs from camera RAW files

Camera RAW files (CR2, CR3, NEF, ARW, RAF and more) are 20 to 60 MB each and need special software. Every RAW file also contains a full-size JPG preview made by the camera, with the camera's own colours and picture style. This tool extracts that preview, which is quick and needs no RAW editor.

That makes it ideal for picking and sharing shots from a shoot. For exposure, shadow or white-balance corrections, edit in a RAW editor (Lightroom, darktable, RawTherapee) and export from there.

Tips

  • Shoot RAW+JPEG? Then you already have JPGs; this helps when you only kept the RAW files.
  • Some cameras store a smaller preview. The result is then smaller than the full sensor resolution.
  • Converting a whole card is fine: add all files and download them as one ZIP.

About the formats

RAW (Camera RAW (CR2, CR3, NEF, ARW, DNG, ORF, RW2, RAF and more)) is the unprocessed sensor data saved by DSLR and mirrorless cameras. RAW files are great for editing but large, brand-specific and impossible to share as-is. Every camera stores a ready-made preview inside its RAW files, usually at full resolution. This converter uses that preview, so colours match what you saw on the camera's screen.

JPG (JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group), 1992) is the most widely used photo format in the world. It uses lossy compression that throws away detail the eye barely notices, which keeps photos small. JPG and JPEG are the same format: the shorter extension comes from old Windows versions that only allowed three letters.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert RAW to JPG?

Drop your RAW files into the box above (or tap Select files), check the options, then press Convert. Each JPG downloads on its own, or you can download them all as one ZIP file.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser on your own device. Your RAW files are never sent to a server, so they stay private, and it works even on a slow connection once the page has loaded.

Is there a limit on how many RAW files I can convert?

No. Convert as many as you like, for free, without signing up. Very large batches are processed one after another so your browser stays responsive.

Which RAW formats are supported?

Canon (CR2, CR3), Nikon (NEF, NRW), Sony (ARW), Adobe DNG, Olympus (ORF), Panasonic (RW2), Fujifilm (RAF), Pentax (PEF), Samsung (SRW) and most others, because they all store a preview image we can read.

Will I lose quality converting to JPG?

JPG uses lossy compression, but at the default 90% quality the difference is practically invisible. Move the Quality slider up for the highest fidelity or down for smaller files.

Why doesn't the JPG look like my Lightroom edit?

Edits made in Lightroom are stored separately (in the catalogue or an XMP file), not in the RAW file. The JPG shows the camera's own processing.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. It works in Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Edge on phones, tablets and computers. Nothing to install.
