HEIC to PNG Converter
Turn HEIC (HEIF) files into PNG in seconds. Everything happens on your device: nothing is uploaded, and there's no limit.
Your images are processed in this browser tab and never uploaded.
Why convert HEIC to PNG?
HEIC photos from an iPhone often won't open on Windows, Android or upload forms.
PNG keeps every pixel and supports transparency, so nothing is lost and it is accepted by every app and website.
What to expect
- Live Photos convert to a still image. Location and camera details (EXIF) are not copied into the new file, which is safer for sharing.
- Converting to PNG keeps every pixel of your HEIC, but it can't restore detail that HEIC compression already removed.
When PNG is the better choice for an iPhone photo
PNG is lossless, so the converted file keeps exactly the pixels decoded from the HEIC, with no second round of compression. That matters when you plan to edit the photo, cut out the background or reuse it in a design.
The cost is size: a photo as PNG is often 5 to 10 times larger than the HEIC. For sharing or uploading a photo, JPG is the better target; for editing, PNG is.
Tips
- Screenshots taken on an iPhone are already PNG. Only camera photos are HEIC.
- Portrait mode photos convert as the finished image with the blur applied. The depth map stays in the original HEIC.
- For a transparent background, convert to PNG first and then remove the background: HEIC photos never contain transparency themselves.

About the formats
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container, 2015) is the format iPhones and iPads use for photos since iOS 11. It keeps photos at about half the size of JPG, but many Windows PCs, websites and apps can't open it. HEIC and HEIF are the same container format. HEIC is the name Apple uses for photos stored with HEVC compression.
PNG (Portable Network Graphics, 1996) is a lossless format that keeps every pixel exactly. It supports full transparency, which makes it the standard for logos, screenshots and graphics with sharp edges.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert HEIC to PNG?
Drop your HEIC files into the box above (or tap Select files), check the options, then press Convert. Each PNG downloads on its own, or you can download them all as one ZIP file.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser on your own device. Your HEIC files are never sent to a server, so they stay private, and it works even on a slow connection once the page has loaded.
Is there a limit on how many HEIC files I can convert?
No. Convert as many as you like, for free, without signing up. Very large batches are processed one after another so your browser stays responsive.
Why won't my iPhone photos open on Windows?
iPhones save photos as HEIC to save space. Windows needs an extra codec to open them, and many websites reject them. Converting to PNG fixes that. On the iPhone you can also switch to Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible to take new photos as JPG.
Will I lose quality converting to PNG?
No. PNG is lossless, so the converted image keeps every pixel of the original.
Is PNG better quality than JPG for iPhone photos?
PNG adds no extra loss, so it is the highest-quality copy you can get from a HEIC. In practice a 90% JPG looks the same to the eye; PNG wins only when you edit and re-save many times.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. It works in Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Edge on phones, tablets and computers. Nothing to install.
