What is Form 8822?

Individuals use Form 8822 to change their home mailing address with the IRS (businesses use Form 8822-B). The form lists where to mail it based on your old address.

  • Part II: your name, SSN, old address and new address.
  • Sign and date, then mail it to the address in the instructions for your old state.

These tips are a quick guide, not tax advice. The form's own instructions on irs.gov are the final word. Form version: Rev. February 2021, checked October 2026.
