Why convert JPG to WebP?

JPG has no transparency and loses a little quality each time it's re-saved.

WebP files are much smaller, so websites load faster and use less storage.

JPG to WebP for faster pages

Re-saving website photos as WebP usually cuts their size by 25 to 35% with no visible difference, which shortens page load time and improves Core Web Vitals such as Largest Contentful Paint.

Shopify and many CDNs already convert images to WebP automatically, so check your platform first. For WordPress and hand-built sites, converting here is the simplest way.

Tips

  • Resize photos to the size they are shown at before converting. A 4000 px photo in a 1200 px slot wastes more bytes than any format change saves.
  • Keep the JPG originals for printing and for people who want to download the photo.
  • Very small images (under 10 KB) gain little; convert the large hero and product photos first.

About the formats

JPG (JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group), 1992) is the most widely used photo format in the world. It uses lossy compression that throws away detail the eye barely notices, which keeps photos small. JPG and JPEG are the same format: the shorter extension comes from old Windows versions that only allowed three letters.

WebP (WebP, 2010) is Google's modern web format. It makes files roughly 25–35% smaller than JPG or PNG at the same visual quality and supports both transparency and animation.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert JPG to WebP?

Drop your JPG files into the box above (or tap Select files), check the options, then press Convert. Each WebP downloads on its own, or you can download them all as one ZIP file.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser on your own device. Your JPG files are never sent to a server, so they stay private, and it works even on a slow connection once the page has loaded.

Is there a limit on how many JPG files I can convert?

No. Convert as many as you like, for free, without signing up. Very large batches are processed one after another so your browser stays responsive.

Will I lose quality converting to WebP?

WebP uses lossy compression, but at the default 90% quality the difference is practically invisible. Move the Quality slider up for the highest fidelity or down for smaller files.

Will WebP images show in email?

Not reliably. Outlook on Windows and some older mail apps don't show WebP. Use JPG or PNG for email newsletters.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. It works in Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Edge on phones, tablets and computers. Nothing to install.
