HEIC to ICO Converter
Turn HEIC (HEIF) files into ICO in seconds. Everything happens on your device: nothing is uploaded, and there's no limit.
Your images are processed in this browser tab and never uploaded.
Why convert HEIC to ICO?
HEIC photos from an iPhone often won't open on Windows, Android or upload forms.
Browsers and Windows need ICO for favicons and app icons.
What to expect
- Live Photos convert to a still image. Location and camera details (EXIF) are not copied into the new file, which is safer for sharing.
- One ICO file is created with 16, 32, 48, 64, 128 and 256 pixel sizes. Non-square images are centred on a transparent square.
- Converting to ICO keeps every pixel of your HEIC, but it can't restore detail that HEIC compression already removed.

About the formats
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container, 2015) is the format iPhones and iPads use for photos since iOS 11. It keeps photos at about half the size of JPG, but many Windows PCs, websites and apps can't open it. HEIC and HEIF are the same container format. HEIC is the name Apple uses for photos stored with HEVC compression.
ICO (Windows Icon, 1985) is the icon format used by Windows and by website favicons. One ICO file can hold several sizes (16×16 up to 256×256), so the right one is shown in tabs, desktops and taskbars.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert HEIC to ICO?
Drop your HEIC files into the box above (or tap Select files), check the options, then press Convert. Each ICO downloads on its own, or you can download them all as one ZIP file.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser on your own device. Your HEIC files are never sent to a server, so they stay private, and it works even on a slow connection once the page has loaded.
Is there a limit on how many HEIC files I can convert?
No. Convert as many as you like, for free, without signing up. Very large batches are processed one after another so your browser stays responsive.
Why won't my iPhone photos open on Windows?
iPhones save photos as HEIC to save space. Windows needs an extra codec to open them, and many websites reject them. Converting to ICO fixes that. On the iPhone you can also switch to Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible to take new photos as JPG.
What size should a favicon be?
Modern sites use a 32×32 favicon, with 16×16 for older browsers and larger sizes for shortcuts. This converter puts 16, 32, 48, 64, 128 and 256 pixel versions into one ICO file, so you only need one. Use a square image for the best result.
Will I lose quality converting to ICO?
No. ICO is lossless, so the converted image keeps every pixel of the original.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. It works in Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Edge on phones, tablets and computers. Nothing to install.
